Hi there!

This is the first Merc I’ve ever owned. Being a lady driver and one that travels a lot, I’ve driven this lovely car back and forth to Spain a few times now. A great drive, just a few niggles that have come up now that I need help with! Having been in the Rover 75 forums (hubby and I both have/had a 75 Tourer), I’ve learned a lot from the club/forums. I’m hoping I’ll have the same experience here!

Ah thank you!

I have a couple of issues at the moment, so trying to read posts about any possible help. I have the alarm sounding for parking break on, which it isn’t, so that might just be a sensor? Plus I have the boot release stuck in the open position - think that will be a new part as it’s been soaked in WD40 and no luck there....

Parking brake is just a switch on the top of the parking brake pedal. Sometimes putting your foot under the pedal and lifting will clear it temporarily.

Ah, well I’ve had that switch relplaced a couple of times as someone suggested that it was responsible for the ABS/ESP light coming on and once when the auto gear selector stuck...but I will give your suggestion a go, thanks!

There are two switches. One on the brake pedal and one for the parking brake pedal. The former is the one for ABS/ESP issues. The park brake one is only for the park brake light/warning.

Oh right, I didn’t realise that. Yes, you are right, it was the main brake switch light that got replaced. I will try on the parking brake pedal....

Many thanks! It is a lovely car to drive I must say. Low mileage and now with my own plate on it, looks a treat!

Also check the adjuster under the rear seat isn't stuck. Lift out the rear seat squab. Under it is an access panel. Remove the access panel and under it is the cable adjuster. The spring under the seat can snap and the cable linkage can get tight. Lubricate everything and refit the panel and seat. It'll be either that or the switch. If lifting the pedal with your foot sorts it then it's the linkage. If not it's the switch.
