Hows about this then?

My car doesn't have folding mirrors. There is no switch (there is a blank where the switch normally is) and I can't find anything on the convenience menu. How can such an expensive car not have folding mirrors?

When I was looking at SL55s I was stunned at how much kit was not standard fitment. For a 90 grand car it is not right but that historically is MB for you. Is yours a UK spec Helen? My M5 was a personal import (UK spec) because at the time there was a price incentive to do so.

Since I posted the folding mirror question I have had some feedback from the MB dealer in the midlands where I purchased the car. They are going to do it for me. It is a change to function 500 in the coding.
My 55 plate e320 was one of the very first V6's produced in October of 2005 and it definitely does not have the option in the user menu to change it myself. In that menu you can only enable the nearside door mirror to lower when reverse is selected. This is a parking aid so presumably you can keep an eye on where the kerb is.
I can't remember if the mirror folding was an option on my previous car which was a June 2005 e320 straight 6 model but it certainly was enabled and working fine.
I have not asked any of my local MB service centres to see if they will do it.
I get the impression that I will get the same response as the forum member from Bolton and no doubt the cost for what might not take too long to do, will be expensive.

Yes it's UK spec and I had it re-confirmed at the dealer today - no folding mirrors. Maybe the original purchaser was short of folding when he bought it.

True, but it does go very very quickly!

Besides, how can a girl check her makeup, if the mirrors are .............? ;)

I believe MB stopped the option because the mirrors can stick and the motors aren't really up to the job. Mine do auto-fold but I am aware than newer ones don't.
Hence I doubt the dealer will do it or they leave themselves open to warranty claims. However, as whitenemesis says, it can be done. You just need to find someone with the necessary kit. Maybe an indie specialist?

We rented a complete house with everything all in, including a garage from my ex's employer Alfa Laval for £150 for a week.

It is one of the most expensive places in Sweden to live.

The little tiny houses from 1900 fetch £650,000 and only 3 rooms in all

MY 2005 was the major turning point in terms of electronics in the cars. So a number of cars from mid 2004 which were built as MY2005 can have auto folding mirrors. The E class was the first though around the end of 2003!
