But Hawk has missed the point of the original post, we were talking about doing a folding mirror mod, most MB techies will not know how to do this as they have not been taught how to, and the chances of getting one to explore the possibilities are slim. They refuse to do it for they try and avoid come backs by venturing out side of the normal STAR programs, and that is fair comment

Suppose you cannot blame them. A specialised place like comand.co.uk could do it, although just pressing the mirror fold button when parking up is hardly a hardship and pressing it to see them when moving off ain't to bad. Not when the consolation is a car like that

Dead right, half the time I do not need to park my mirrors, and it is a 1 touch as it is, at least the wires will not break so often

I am scared to fold mine, that squeaking and groaning isn't right. I think there is a mod one can do to the wiring to put an end to it, or change the cabling. It was either you or Andy that mentioned this @ gaydon.

I suppose when we can nit pick like this over cars we should see we are lucky. I here of woes of cars from yesteryear that couldn't sustain a long haul motorway trip, and would rust within a year.

PTFE sprayed into the fulcrum point would stop all of the noise and strain, slide the covers off to see where you are spraying it

One of the real benifits of auto folding mirrors is a visual confirmation the car is locked, even from across the car park! :D

Thats not a very convincing argument, most people lock their car when they are within 2 feet of the car, on a 211 or 203 you can hear the locks with ease and see the flashing indicators, why would the car be unlocked when you are at the other end of the car park

You could always press unlock, then relock the car and see these indicators flash if you were paranoid. I would guess the car has an autolock where it would lock after a set period of time. Just guessing and not going to put to the test as knowing my luck some bugger would knick my satnav and sunglasses when I tried this theory out.

I use this method to check as I'm walking away, having keyless go can cause unlocking or boot opening when walking away as the fob buttons can be depressed whilst the keys are in your pocket especialy if there on a fob and the fob presses against them. I left mine outside work went in never turned back to check looked out of the window a couple of hours later and the boot was open - accidental button pressing was the only explaination and I've looked back at the mirrors to check status ever since.

I wonder how many owners 'ping' their car, the locks go down, the indicators flash and for some - the mirrors fold in. THEN they go round the car and try all the doors and the boot - just to make sure.!!

Go on - admit it. How many of you do?

I usually check when I lock it that the locks go down. Locks can be playful little things in the cold weather, so its best to check.

I've seen people do that and try getting their finger tips in the top of the windows to make sure there up.

I have the card hidden on my person and just press the button on the door handle, so easy, and its all locked.

I was thinking of having an implant, then no one could steal the car without me:D

Bit tricky when you change cars, you'll need to get the old implant out and a new one in. Don't think you'll get that on the NHS - maybe MRSA but not that ;)

I just plug myself into STAR :D solved :D
