Looking for ways to solve this problem.

The front air cap is staying up and as I try to retract it will come down and then returns to the raised position.
I have taken it to Mercedes dealership only to be told they have checked the fault on their system but it doesn't appear to be a software problem, they could only offer to replace the unit @ £1,300 .

Has anyone had this problem? found a way around it? is it possible to disconnect this so it remains down? can I remove a fuse?

Appreciate any help.
Thanks

Hello and welcome,

I've merged your threads as there's no requirement to post across multiple sections.

Don't have many air-cap issues reported on the forum, worth a search though

Welcome
sadly this is a thread from a (previously) regular member.
It does seem that there IS a software fix, so maybe you need to go to someone who will actually try it (Mercedes Independent specialist- we can recommend if you post your location)

Hi, very simple fix. When deflector is in its extended position, lubricate all the hinges with 3 in 1 Mist oil. These devices are fitted with a Pinch motor. This changes the polarity if it detects any resistance. I did it on mine, now works perfect. A bit cheaper than £1300 + labour. Top tip, carefully lubricate all the hinges on Sun roof. It does dry out through time.

main dealer, will simply replace the whole unit.

Hi. I have a 2013 E250 and I'm experiencing the same issue.

The windscreen deflector stays in the open position. Strangely it goes all the way down and immediately back up when I lock/unlock the doors or start/stop the engine.

The light also stays on. I don't believe it's a mechanical issue as theres no obstructions and it literally goes all the way down for a good second before it goes back up. Tried lubricating all the hinges and everything looks super clean/obstruction free.

Has anybody else experienced the same and found a resolution? I would rather disconnect it somehow than to replace the entire unit.

There is a series of fine roller bearings. Spray oil into them and it will usually sort the issue. It is operated by a pinch motor for safety. Slightest resistance (dirt, dust) will send it back up again. Happened to me, I'm now aware of it and it works perfect. Mercedes will just replace motor and the same thing will happen again

Hi @NevMerc. Thanks for the prompt response.

I've tried spraying oil into the hinges but its made no difference. I have to admit the hinges look super clear of any dirt/debris.

The wind deflector appears to drop all the way down for a good second and makes no noise before it goes back up; which makes me think its not resistance related and possibly a software issue as suggested above.
It also strangely goes in-and-out when locking or unlocking the doors.

Is it possible for the vehicle to develop a software bug/glitch without any recent work or battery issues?

Mine on 2011 version kept cycling up and down when stopping the car. Quoted £1200 for new one plus fitting! Disconnected the plug above the rear view mirror. Stops the cap operating but still allows the deflector to raise when the button operated.

Disconnect at connector above rear view mirror. Rear deflector will still function on button.

they all have problems ,to disable take out front interior light ,you can see wires one at top connects to motor just one wire, when it retracts pull off connector at just right moment ,will stay in and lots cheaper than going mercedes ,what use are they unless you have a toupe ,makes no difference to car no warning lights
