Somebody suggested the reason that my 1981 280 se does not go is that it needs a new fuel pump relay
is there any way to check this out before i buy one and does anybody know the cheapest place to get them ..... (or have one sitting around that they are not using!)

thanks

I think you'll find some old postings on here regarding fuel pumps/relays. There is a way of checking that the pump itself is working and thus narrowing the problem to the relay as the most likely cause.

First, with the relay in place, turn the key to 'on' (not 'start') and listen out for a couple of seconds operation of the fuel pump. If that doesn't happen, remove the relay and bridge a couple of pins in the socket (the relevant ones are specified in other postings on this topic - can't remember off the top of my head). This should make the pump operate continuously.

Note - earlier discussion was probably on other models, but the pin nos will be the same for yours.
