Hello I got the box from a Mercedes breakers I had a few problems with the pan gasket leaking a few times.
I went for a long drive on the weekend and the problem I get is that when its in Drive going up the gears it goes into 4th but when I feather the throttle it kicks down a gear TO 3RD before i have chance to increase the vehicles speed.
or if it doesnt kick down the revs increase and no speed is gained ie slip.
I dont know if i can adjust anything on the cable etc that maybe wrong ??.
I hope its no the box at fault again.???? ANY HELP IS GREAT :(

3 things here.

A worn out torque converter will do this.

The kick down switch incorrectly set.

Or the control valve Y3/1Y2 is making poor contact via the solenoid

I have sent some voltage checks that you can do.

The throttle cable can be checked by seeing that the kick down is not cutting in at the full throttle just before kickdown

In my experience I would expect to see the two shaft sealing rings right at the rear of the transmission damaged, the rearmost clutch is used for fourth gear and the seals on the hub bolted to the gearbox casing wear, early types were a soft grey material later replaced by a white plastic material.

You will have to remove and strip the transmission to find the sealing rings I mention
