Could I ask what gearbox I would have in mine (Where can I find the numbers for any future reference)? What oil will it need & what quantity?

It's a '53', C220 CDI, 6 Speed Manual

Looking to change the gearbox oil before it gets too cold and there is no indication in the service book that it has ever been changed.

Many thanks
Dan

I wouldnt have thought about doing it, but last few mornings I've experienced the very stiff gear changes in 1st/2nd and reverse.

Ive read up on the forums here about reducing the amount of transmission oil, to help.

And thought while I'm in that area of the car, I might as well just re-new it altogether.

If you or anyone could supply the details, this MB student would be most grateful.

Cheers again ;)

Gearbox 722.640 04 361938 Fill Capacity

Hi,
My 2004 E270 CDI (W211) has box listed as 7226 40 04 361938 (from russian website)
This model was not listed on Televisions list for gearbox oil capacities.
Can i assume it is 7.5 litres (+0.5) as for all other 7226 boxes?

Thanks.

You have the 722.6 box and yes the is no dip stick,, they cost £36 from MB but most of us make one from a piece of curtain wire where the fluid should be 5.6cm up the stick when the fluid is at 80c
Hi thanks for the tips, How can I find where to check the gear box oil on my c240, 2001. And where can I top it up ? Would you please tell me how can I make a dipstick from the wire. Pls I would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

The filler tube is at the rear of the engine off side with cap on it, just break the seal and the cap comes off, you insert the wire measuring stick in this hole in the tube and fill the box if it needs any fluid in the same hole. In the DIY section you will see the how to make and use the curtain wire dip stick

How do I drain the torque converter in my 03 270cdi. I have drained the sump 3.4l
I have also removed the cooler pipes( gearbox end ) and turned over a few times Only got an extra 0.4 l out????

I don't want to put new oil in until it is fully drained

Could the level have been low before you started, though the converter and cooler holds about 3 liters

Malcolm...can you tell me what ATF i need for my car and the quantity for a straightforward drain and refill?

2003 W211 E320CDi Avantgarde.
Apologies, I'm not being lazy.....I'm just not technically minded and I plan to get whatever it is I need and bring it to my own mechanic.

Many Thanks
Chris

You will need to buy it from MB and the 214 is the latest spec I think,,they will supply you with the correct version, yours should be a 722.6 box and not the 7g
