Does your car change up normal after you have left it for a while?

c'mon guys, I got the same sort of comments when I complained about wind noise at 130mph on B roads in the wet.

Does the problem persisit for long or does the car go back to normal quickly?

I was really enquireing if the car goes back to normal after being stopped and switched off, then it will be the logic in the throttle/gearbox system that is expecting to be driven. the ECU brain learns the driving style and will adjust the upchange to suit the input. if you drive a car at 130mph it will be using some throttle to do this and the older versions of this trickery stuff will not update as quick as the latest generation. so it will need to be reset by knocking it off. it re-learns the new inputs when driven again. this would explain the situation described above if he means when driving slowy the gears dont change up till late in the rev range. for those cars with throttle by wire and tip fucntion gearboxs you can instantly influenece early upchanging again by light throttle inputs and serveral taps on the gear selector at low revs in the + direction. a few of these and the car will start to upchange again early.

Darren007 (? :)) surely wouldn't want this to happen on the racetrack though, so I don't really understand his complaint. I certainly hope to Christ he's not referring to its use on the public roads!

It sounds like low or bad fluid - it sounds like the transmission fluid is overheating. Which model is it and which version of gearbox? I am guessing W210 and 4 speed box here. Or if its the 5 speed, which is electronic, then Slinky's suggestion of a 'reboot' would be a useful diagnostic, since its shift points are managed electronically, not hydraulically.
