I drove my car today for about 10 minutes to the supermarket then parked it. Soon as I got out of the car I found a better parking slot then decided to move my car there. I started the car, but can't move the gear lever from P. It was stuck and I didn't want to force it to avoid further problem. I switched off the engine then restarted again, same thing happened it was still stuck on P. Decided to leave it and continued shopping. After an hour and a half, went back to my car then started it, pulled the gear lever and hey! it worked without a fuzz. What would be the cause of this. It's the first time it happened and my car has only had a B service a month ago from the stealer.

It may sound silly but my foot was on the brake when I was trying to change the gear and I tried this few times by swithching "off" and "on" the engine. It was just stuck and didn't want to disengage at all.

Yep. Whenever you press the brake, you should hear a click in the vicinity of the gear lever. If not, either the brake switch is faulty, or the safety switch is faulty. The faulty brake switch is also known to cause the ABS light to switch on.

I think you're right because my ABS light switched on before while I was driving but went off after switching the engine off. Much appreciated. Thanks.

definitly sounds like brake light switch.Even if brakelights are working,a signal may not be being sent to the ignition switch control module say your brake pedal is depressed.
