My c200k 51 plate has had an annoying noise for a few days now, I have had a few comments from members as at first it was suspected to be brake noise/wheel bolts etc etc. three garages had no idea what it was and have spent about 3 or more free hours searching. I have still got to carry out a couple more tests on wheels, but a friend, who is a top mechanic at toyota, not a manager, but an expert on difficult problems, (paid lots) he says that the noise sounds from experience that it could be transmission related, possibly some form of bearing. Also says that could be low gearbox oil, but as no leaks apparent probably not. The car has only just reached 66k and has a fsh. I thought mbs were bullet proof, My run of cavaliers and vectras had no such probs and my early cars had done 180k miles, no servicing, only oil changes. Any views would be good. (manual 6speed)
Thanks pt

Television,
my problems with the car are as follows
A scraping noise started on tuesday, about ten miles after this the brake linning warning light came on, so i had all pads and sensors changed, still no improvement,The noise is a scraping/light grinding noise which you can only hear inside the car with windows shut and emminates from gear stick area. It speeds up accordingly, but seems to almost if not completely dissapear when turning the wheel left. The noise seems to have improved today but this could be the warmer weather.
Anything else you need to know,?
Thanks paul

Paul, the symptoms you describe are the same as I've got at the moment (same car, similar mileage, is yours an auto also?). In the hope of trying to rule out the gearbox, this morning I put the car in neutral, engine running, and let it roll down hill for a few metres - noise still present. Not sure if this rules out the gearbox - can anyone advise? Car in local garage for analysis as we speak, will post if/when problem located. Did you find out what was causing your noise?

I read somewhere on a recent post about a loose handbrake cable running against the propshaft ? Think this was to do with another C class?

There are some problems relating to this, its a matter of looking under the car just at the rear of the gearbox where the propsaft UJ joins it.

Yes, TY all for your responses. Garage rang this afternoon to say that they had found a broken parking brake clip and that the cable was rubbing on transmission. Will be fixed tomorrow once part arrives; hope this cures the problem.

Yes, replacing the clip has cured the fault. Thanks to all who assisted with diagnosis.
