Hi All,
I have finally got my facelift 500sel back on the road after replacing the very hard to find EZL ignition module and sorting most of the bugs!

I have a few questions that some more experienced w126 owners may be able to answer for me.

The specs as far as i understand........car is a grey import from Singapore to NewZealand and is right hand drive. The car is fitted with a 117.965 engine and the workshop manual i have on dvd states that it is a "factory uprated engine" This is due to a more complex ignition module featuring knock sensors and the higher compression of 10.0/1 which is stamped as E10.0 after the engine serial number on the block. The car is non cat and has a freeflow exhaust manifold with 4 down pipes into two.
No cruise control, no electric seats, no sunroof! It does have.. full leather interior, aircond and electric adjustable steering column!

1/ Is this upratred engine the standard european spec 195KW? Is this a rare engine specification for W126 500 cars?

2/ In my dvd workshop manual i think it is RUC country version. what does this RUC stand for?

3/ Does anyone know of a website that I can download an owners handbook that is relavent for this version of 500sel?

Any links for information or help would be much appretiated.
Cheers
Mike

Hi Thanks,
Ive got the vin report from there and it confirms what i already know about the cars origin and optional equipment but nothing technical relevent to uprsted engine etc. Had comments about it being a diplomatic car with more power but all just guesswork!
I did locate a supplier in the UK for the ezl/akr ignition module (BBAreman) so i figured it must be a euro spec of some sort?? The module is certainly not available in the US!
Cheers

Let me have the first 6 numbers of the VIN 126--- and I can check to see if the engine is special to your car.

Help!

Hi Mike

Sorry for contacting you this way but I couldn't see any other contact option and I'm in desperate need of help for my father's Mercedes. I noticed you had a similar problem and wondered if you could point me in the right direction so we can get his car on the road again too. I have put an open question with images on the forum (under 'please help I'm desperate!'), but in case you don't look at them I've copied it here....

He has a 1991 Mercedes 500SE 4Door V-8 Automatic Petrol Rear Wheel Drive that is his absolute pride and joy. He is very elderly and has had a terrible year healthwise and driving this car is one of his real pleasures in life.

The ignition unit in the car has blown and he needs a new one. This is easier said than done. We have been looking for 3 months, and the mechanic even ordered one from Australia which was the wrong part. Apparently it is very hard to find - it used to be made by Bosch but they no longer make them. It has 2 x 8 pin round plugs and 1 x 3 pin round plug.

I believe you were looking for the same part. If there's any help you could give us on where to look I'd be so grateful - it means so much to my father.

Thanks

Nicola
