I've found one of the 5 glowplugs in my car is not working - its still starts reasonably ok, but I'm going to get round to changing it. I've just gone through the precedure on one of the american forums but they recommend cleaning away all carbon deposits from the orofice using the mercedes 'glowplug reamer'.
What does this look like? Where can I get it? Or is there something else that would do the job just as well?

Ah....don't rush out just yet!
Hopefully I'll have mine next Weds. It might be good to measure it first to see if there is enough working clearance for your engine.

An appropriately sized drill bit, with some grease on the tip, turned by hand will clean out the carbon.

Are your glow plugs parallel or series ones?

If they're series, it may be worth also considering an upgrade to parallel plugs.

They're the (pencil) style ones, wired in parallel.
I've been hearing good things about Bosch Duraterms?
