Good Vibrations?

As most of you will know, i've had some issues with my CLK230.

After having 2 new tyres put on the front of the car, a new track rod end and the wheel bearings.....tightened????

I'm still getting vibrations through the steering wheel and seat at speeds of 60mph+

One of the alloys has a bit of a bash which looks like it's mounted a kerb at some point in its life. This wheel is now on the back of the car. I'm thinking that this won't really be an issue as the vibrations come through the steering.

Any thoughts would be most apprecaited!

Really enjoying the car apart from this little problem!!!!!

Hey, worldclass - you still havin' problems?

Given the nature of your posts these last few days, i'd be inclined to check the wheel nuts, tracking and balancing for starters. No such thing as a good vibration, mate. Not in a car, anyhow.

You've pretty much done everything except perhaps, jacking up the wing mirrors and driving a new car underneath!

Hope you get it all sorted eventually,

If it only happens at over 60mph then still balancing if you feel it through the steering wheel,,if through the seat and car then propshaft center bearing or spiders

you could try the spare wheel in place of the damaged wheel to see if it's better

Hey guys,

thanks for the reply.

I reckon I'll start with trying the wheel nuts, spare wheel, then move on to tracking/wheel rebalance. Then I'll look at the propshaft, center bearing & spiders - well, i'll stick it into a garage.

The vibes come primarilly through the wheel, but I do get a free massage in the seat and can feel it through my feet in the floorpan.

Any ideas on cost for prop, C Bearing & spiders?

I agree with Malcolm. Because the wheels have been balanced does not mean that they are correctly balanced.

On the basis that common things are common, I would have that redone before dismantling the driveline or getting into greater expense.

If you take it back to the guy who balanced them and explain, if he is worth his salt he or she will try again foc. :)

Not joined to this post yet but would certainly agree with M and A back to basics.

However here is my take. Two days after taking delivery of my E240 I started to have a similar problem the dealer suggested tyre's needed replacing (fair wear and tear -after some 60 miles!) after much discussion (threats being issued and received) the problem was eventually sorted by replacing the two front disc's as it was 'felt' that one or even both(?) might be warped.

Problem went away. might not help at all but another avenue if you have not already been there.

Oh yes and the tyre's went on to give another 20k

If the brake discs were warped, surely I would only experience the problem when braking and it would only come through the steering? Don't know though? Might be wrong?

Certainly something worth checking.

Cheers all for your posts.

Took the car to get wheels rebalanced & tracking done.

Turns out the rear passenger wheel is warped. Getting it fixed for £80.

At the moment the spare is on the car and it is a lot better, however not 100% free from vibration.

Seems to come and go at around 70mph. Any further ideas?

PS - After having the track rod end replaced, they didn't bother to do the tracking - it was way out! Quality workmanship

Its quite common not to do the tracking when changing a ball joint.

It could be your sensitivity to noise as you a musician. Do you have bat ears?

I believe the brake pads and disks, clean all of them one by one and remove all the rusts. Make sure the brake pads can return to the original position. when was the brake fluid changed? It needs to be done every 2 years.
