As I wasn't very impressed with the deal the local dealer was offering me to replace my W202 with a Sport Coupe, I've now gone to the dark side.

Thank you for all the help and banter that's kept me going throughout the day.

If anyone sees R584YFL it had 217,300 miles on the clock, but given it's condition in the wrong hands it may lose a few miles.

I don't blame you mate. Modern Mercs aren't nearly as good as the old ones. They used to be special, now everyone else has caught up, Merc have gotten lazy and they are distinctly average these days.

Yes I'll be back, there's only so long I can drive around with a paper bag over my head.

I got 2 calls from the Merc dealer after declining their deal, so maybe (a big maybe) they'll be more interested in doing a deal next time. Plus a more efficient 4 cylinder diesel.

My local stealer called enquiring when I was going to book in my 2003 C-Class for its 'just south of £450' B-Service: clearly he is desparate to call to get my business. I asked him to reduce it to £300 as that was more comparable for what work was to be carried out, and meet overheads. He refused, banging on about invalidating mobilo life. I banged on about the office of fair trading having asked DaimlerChrysler to remove the illegal 'you must use a MB dealer to keep warranty intact' clause, but DC are a bit shy to write to their Mobilo Life (or 'Milked for Life') customers.

An independant B-Service is £120 + parts, inclusive of VAT.

Moral of this tale: Fight back: demand more from the stealer. Driving a MB should not be an invitation to get ripped off.
