So we booked her in with only a couple days notice.

Met the bodywork guy there (serendipitously), who immediately said 'yes, no problem' to repairing the rust around the rear tailgate handle, rear star and some under the rubber door seal. He said we need to own it 6 months, though, so to come back in a couple of months. Then he'd check it out properly to see if anything else needs doing, including the front crossmember..:)

So they did the B service in the day, texted me to authorise brake fluid change at £39.40 (no thanks), and ran a minimal diagnostic only (as requested) to check why she won't kick down at times, which came up with MAF fault :) and a precise quote for its repair (no thanks).

No pressure, no hassles. Car returned fully valeted and the bill texted to us - £406. A customer satisfaction questionnaire when we picked it up and a follow-up phone call the next day to make sure everything was fine.

They even changed the battery in the keyfob.

What a pleasant surprise..yes an independant might have been £100 cheaper, but hey, we've got a rust repair out of it too.

Dealer is John R Weir, Dundee.

Why did you turn down the brake fluid change, is it something you do yourself?
In the grand scheme of things £39 is not bad for a healthier braking system.

My thoughts as well, time & effort against cost. The calculation is different for everyone.
I do all the servicing on my bikes (apart from the cams) as it is for fun, but the car I don't have the time for much.

I have to agree, £40 isn't bad for brake fluid renewal. Much better than expensive repairs to the ABS. Money well spent.
I paid £30 for brake fluid renewal on the wife's 206cc. At that price it wasn't worth getting my hands dirty, all the kit out, buying my own fluid, etc. etc.

Indeed. I opted to do the bleed myself because with services like that, the odd little bit here and there is what adds it all up to a big bill. 40 plus VAT would have taken the bill nearer 500, and as it is, its just 400. I'm trying to get enough together for a 356 Porsche just now, and every little helps.

Also, at that stage I was expecting a bigger final bill, to be honest..

Anyway, I am planning to take the wheels off soon to paint the calipers (don't worry - just black) and check the wheelarch lips for the beginnings of rust, remove dirt and stick some waxoyl on.

So worry not, she'll get her new brake fluid and the MAF cleaned or replaced.
Glad to hear Weir have a good rep. The salesman that sold my w123 when it was new still works there!

I also had a good experience at my main dealer somewhere in Norwich (Robinsons). I didn't want the neighbours to think I had won the lottery by accepting a courtesy car when my service was due, so took them up on their collection service.

Guy came at 9 am and collected the car. All fine and returend to me at 6pm fully valeted and yes I too was impressed by the keyfob battery check.

I was grateful the bill was only £406 quid and nothing major (actually nothing at all) needed fixing.

Told the customer satisfaction lady when she rang that yes all had gone well and it was a faultless service.

A few days later I tried to use my rear wash/wipe and found it was still knackered...(it didn't work b4 going to the garage but I forgot to mention it to them). Yet having checked the service record it says it had been checked and had a big tick by it....

So now not so impressed. But I can't be arsed to ring and complain - who knows, if they diagnosed the fault I might need a whole new boot hatch at £2k or something.

Apart from that they were very good.
