There a place near me in Weedon I've used a few times. Only problem with this type of place is you have to clear the bay by the end of your hour as there's usually someone in the hour after yours. Can be awkward if things don't go to plan.

Hi Guys,

I think the place Wighty is referring to, that I have used is called "Pit Start Garage", in Acton, NW London. It's so, so.. mixed experience of the place.

But... while I have not rented a bay in This Is Your Garage, I have some good experience of the place.

I had my SL in storage there for a few months. While I had planned to rent out a bay while the car was in storage, to sort arch rust + brakes etc.. We entered COVID-19/lockdown so couldn't. The brake pads were on their last legs, so I had Richard sort pads + discs all around for me.

Richard can be described as the General Manager there and is an absolute gent.. very friendly. I was quite impressed that he even used copper anti-seize on the wheel nuts. Some might say standard enough, but many wouldn't bother.

On a couple of visits to the place, I had a nose around and the place is very well equipped, tidy and clean. They have an elaborate selection of tools and also some specialised equipment such as an ultrasonic cleaner.

Arguably not the cheapest place around but it's an all encompassing service and worth every penny imo. Richard has also expressed that they do their very best to help you out if you run over on time. He also told me before that if you tell him what needs doing he should be able to give a very strong indicator of how long the job should take.

To recap, it is certainly not too good to be true. I would suggest you take a spin up there some time for a look around and see what is being worked on. There have always been very interesting cars on the lifts any time I have been there.

Any time I need a lift that will be where I will be going. I really wish I could have done my rusty arches there as opposed to out in the open in my estate in London.

^^ Copper anti seize grease is a big no no on wheel studs / bolts !!!!

Hmm.. perhaps. Seems a somewhat controversial topic. I am still learning.

Is it because it upsets the torque readings when torquing?

Correct.
Unless stated otherwise torque settings are clean and dry.

Also... @John77 -- I managed to find a video I saw a while ago of this guy who brought his 350Z do some work at TIYG. Bit of a glimpse into place there.

The forum didn't link to the correct time, so FF to 3:30 to get to TIYG.

Hope it helps in some way.

There used to be one called 'Ramp and Wrench' I think. Looked great and I was looking at using it's facilities in the future as it would have been really handy. Unfortunately, they decided to revert to a normal garage offering garage services as the liability insurance ended up being too high. There may have been an incident that may have persuaded them to go this way, don't know. I personally think it was a great idea but I can imagine the costs to fully insure a member of the public using professional ramps etc would be quite a lot.

Agreed. I wonder how TIYG make it work, because it clearly works for them.

Perhaps that's why this is their trial place and if it works they will roll it out to other locations

From their site:

Fair enough... But that could be said about most businesses really.

I hope they open one in SW London :D

Just contact the garage and they said:-

Hi Brian,

Thank you for getting in touch.
We only have the one facility – based here in Culham nr Oxford with no plans to open in other areas.
Sorry to disappoint.

Kind regards,
