Having been stung hard for alot of parts for my W108 this year.. I could only get most of the stuff Genuine from the dealer due to this rulling that Mercedes almost if not totaly stopped supplying parts to non main agents..

has this situation improved? or is it still MB main dealer only..?

I thought MB parts were only available from MB dealers.

    not so I'm afraid Toby

SLS held loads of MB originals for the classics they cater for. Sadly for me, when i needed two door skins, and rear wings and a front wing, they only had one door skin left, and could get no more from MB (Stuttgart), who flatly refused to supply them, as it was for onward retail.

MB (Stuttgart) then informed me that they had no more door skins, and weren't going to commission any more

So I ended up getting two rear wings and a front wing from MB, at considerably more than SLS would have charged. Not that SLS are cheap though. It's relative expense I'm talking about.

hmmm it's cost me an arm and a leg to get the car to where it is now. Thanks to MBZ stupid slant on Euro Ruling they have slanted in their favour!

It's even been cheaper to make some parts from scratch than buy from MB Main Dealer.

I have to say it's not helping ownership for a classic Mercedes and could well just be that final nail in the coffin..

As most people know my other pashion is Porsches and I am spoilt for choice all the time of where to buy.. I did write a letter to MBZ in Germany out lining the addtional cost to parts that are 40 years old is having a direct hit on keeping it's history on the road. That the car is worth now more in bits than a complete car and could well become a future option due to your slant on the European ruling on parts supply.

    Result

    no reply..

so I have to say we will see if I keep this or not when it's fixed. I have other cars i enjoy more. Shame as it's such a cracker of a car.

being quite frank MBZ are being total jerks!!

Too many suppliers out there in the USA to up set. With Porsches also a lot of parts are made by independent suppliers , mainly because Porsche stopped supporting the product.

But surely there is a benefit in that it is making your car more valuable.

yeah but I don't want to pay for it !! I am putting every thing into this car I have! I would say the 100% opp.. I now don't change things because I can't afford them, unless there broke not replacing. Where as I replaced as I could afford because they were available cheaper..

so no I don't agree. who would want a car where you can only buy parts at crazy prices from the main dealer NO!!!!!!!
