Well, you may think I've lost it...but.
I was in traffic the other day (stationary, engine running
) and I turned off the ignition, and turned it straight back on again. This was to demonstrate a minor fault my car has where the fuel guage doesn't register, which only takes turning the ignition off and on to sort it. This has only happened three times in a year, so it's no bother.
Anyway, since then I have noticed the change back down to second is more pronounced. My car is a '99 C220 CDI 136,500 miles. I am going to have the ATF fluid/filter changed, but at £100 from a local indy, it will have to wait.
So at last, the question is, could turning my ignition off and back on again so quickly have affected the gear change. Incidentally, my gearbox is the electronic 5sp auto type with the Standard/Winter switch.
Thanks in advance.
