Although I said a couple of months ago that I was going to keep my E 220Cdi for a few more years, I went into our local M B dealer and saw a 2004 S 320Cdi and fell in love.

Don't tell me I'm crazy, I know I am, but I'm a man in love with the style, comfort and all the toys.

There are a couply of queries that someone may be able to help me with:-

1. When I check the V.E.D. on Parkers site it gives the emmissions as 209gm/Km but on the V5 (log book) it says 194gm/Km which puts it in a lower tax bracket. can anyone confirm which is correct.

2. In the boot, above the CD changer, there is a gap with brackets to obviously hold something. Can anyone tell me what fits in there so I can I can tell if there is somthing missing that should be on the car.

Unfortunately I can't pick it up for a few days as I'm transferring my Reg. number, so you can imagine I'm like a big kid waiting for christmas, so don't be surprised if I think of more questions.

Don't worry about anything else, just trust the V5C, hope it is genuine. That where the cost of VED comes from.:D

I got mine two weeks ago, fair enough it is only the S280 but it was a dream come true!

The only thing which got in the damn way was the two week turn around from the DVLA with the number plate transfer, I hope you are more lucky than I was!!

Believe me though you have made the right choice, it is a dream car to look at, a dream car to drive and overall a dream to own!

Welcome to 'S' Club!

If you put the reg into the DVLA's web site under vehicle check it will give the details as held by the DVLA for the emissions on the car. That is what sets the VED.

Thanks for the comments, does anyone know what the bracket over the CD changer is for?

Might be the slot for TV tuner.
Check the data card for your car by inserting the VIN into the Russian site. That will tell you what the car left the factory with.

Now I'm right pi**ed off. I've just had a call from Mercedes Northampton to say that they can't verify the service history so they cannot sell me the car.

Doesn't inspire me with confidence, because if I'd decided to pull out of the deal after paying a deposit I bet that they would have made it very awkward.

Anyway I'm now looking for an S-class diesel with all the toys, the one I thought I'd bought was an 04 plate for 14.5K, if anyone sees one for sale please let me know.

Surely they can still sell it to you, but at a reduced price cos the service history isn't full MB?

I'd want to inspect that book much more closely and research the indies that did the work. I wonder if MB think the car is a "dog" and don't want to sell it as the warranty will be claimed on? For a dealer to be as upfront as this is comendable, but why were they retailing it in the first place?

There is something very fishy about this sale but I doubt if you will get to the bottom of it. Better out of it. There is always another car hopefully a better one at the same price. Good hunting.

The stealler should source a car such as this to undo the potential trouble they've done...

My experience with Stealers suggests that they are not being comendable in your case, but simply they realise they've screwed up and have withdrawn the car so as not to get themselves into trouble. (i.e. they've pulled the plug to protect themselves, not to do you a favour).

Would be good if they offered to find you an equivalent car though. (But doubt they would).

Sounds like the dealer is simply and correctly adhering to the Approved Used conditions. Very commendable.

Complex cars -gorgeous to look at, to own and to drive but worth getting one with full MB service history IMO. Get from a dealer -where you will find most of the best ones because so many part ex for another MB and the dealers keep the best ones to retail and shift the rest to the trade.

I fell in love with one too and bought it on an impulse. Fabulous car. You'll wake each day dreaming up excuses to go for a long drive. And the more miles you do, the more complete and perfect the car will feel.

Use the search engine on the MB website. Plenty around at staggeringly good prices now.

I echo the sentiment of hawk, they are a fabulous car and it is worth the wait to find a good example that ticks all your boxes. Believe me it will be out there but you just have to be a bit patient to find it.

Once you do find it though, you will be glad you waited and will enjoy every minute you get driving it!

Seriously though, try Mercland, I went there when I was looking and although Jay did not have the one for me there was plenty of choice and I am sure he would be more than willing to source for your spec.

Any questions give me a shout!

Must say I agree with all of the above. I have had mine for five years now (longest I have ever kept a car) and still look forward to every drive. Good luck, the right one will come along.

Thanks for the comments.
The S-Class was an 04 with 48K and on sale for just under 15K with MB warranty.
I have looked at the MB direct web site and a car with similar age and mileage is on for 22K, so I think that I'll have difficulty in finding a replacement.
From reading the comments on this forum it would appear essential to have a MB waranty on a car of this complexity, so I am resigned to just lying in a darkened room amd sulking.
