I have the leather seats in my 2006 C class but without heated seats. How hard would it be to have these installed is it just a case of a new switch and a wiring loom

The original have the pads stitched to the leather, you can get after market versions, plenty out there with a Google search

As Malcolm says, MB original leather seats have the heat pads already stitched in. So in theory all you need is the wiring loom and a new switch panel. The upper switch panel comes as a single unit available with various combination of switches. They are not available singularly.

Retro fitting heated seats is not an easy job as to do it properly you need to take the fuse box apart and wire into it with the correct connectors and fuses.

I have done this on my A class and it was a big job believe me.

I they are already there then why dont Mercedes just wire them up?

Personally heated seats are in a long line of items i never use on a car and i wish werent there along with front fogs, headlamp washers, all the useless nanny warning switches etc etc.

You'll get everything you need from a donor car in the breakers .

I'd imagine there will be relays in there somewhere too as the heaters must consume a high-ish current , beyond what I'd expect the flimsy switches in the dash to handle ...

Heated seats do not use that much energy, they work the same way as a duo valve, the voltage is pulsed, if you think about it , its the only way they could work, without cooking your backside
