The pump is what is known as CAN controlled, that is there are no direct contacts between on locking button and the pump. Now it the Printed circuit board in the pump has been getting very wet, this can be seen by undoing the screws that hold the PCB into the case. If there is a green algae on the circuit board components and more so under and on the pins of the connector sockets, then this could stop the pump from running as all the CAN signals will become corrupted.
It is possible with lighter fuel and a toothbrush to remove most of the green stuff but very hard to do under the sockets without removing them, and to remove them is near on impossible as the water has blackened the metal too much to be able to de solder them.
