Hi Guys,

I have a 1989 230TE. Her rear shockers are shot.

I've found a replacement pair from a 1982 300e - my question being will they fit?

Thanks in advance.

yes and no- the estates have self-adjusting suspension in the rear like citroens, if Bolide was about he could tell you all about the system.
I believe there are mounting holes for 'standard' shocks though- you'd just loose the self-levelling feature.

OK, here we go:

1 - W124 Mercedes estates don't have rear shock absorbers

2 - Each W124 estate rear self-levelling strut uses a Citroen-style sphere instead of a shock absorber to provide damping

3 - Self-levelling struts rarely fail

4 - Spheres do fail sooner or later

So - establish what the problem is and effect a cure. Your local Citroen specialist may be able to help... and any half-decent W124 specialist should be able to as well

300e shockers? Why bother? A W124 estate rides well because of the rear suspension, not despite it. Repair what's there and enjoy the car!
