Help i have a 94 C220, petrol, manual gearbox. I understand that when NOT in gear the rpm limit is 4000, but my mercs rev limiter opperates at 4000rpm while in gear and driving, also the speed odometer is inop and i'm not sure if this is due to the same problem. i'm not sure how long the car has been doing this as i bought it as a none runner to work on as a project. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, welcome to the forum
I,ve a manual w202 as well and mine revs over 4,000rpm in neutral.
I think what your talking about was on autos only though not 100% on that.
You may possibly have a fault in your main E.C.U. as i,ve read in another forum that reving to only 4,000rpm was a sympton of this.
Get your car plugged into a diagnostic machine this "should" be able to confirm this.
Your car, its not yellow is it?
As saw one for sale a while back with similar symptons.

Not yellow, but thanks

No my Merc is black and is being a pain in the bum, i have an AD300 diagnosis machine at the place i work and it isn't bringing up any new faults with the car, so may have to go to a dealer but trying to avoid this as they are very very exspensive, at least i know it isn't the only one with this problem.

hello Dexter , you fault is not a big one. Its normal for the limiter to cut at 4k there is a switch on the shift that tells the car it is in D. the circuitry is partly in the fuel pump relay. It could be also causing the milometer not to work or vice versa.

I will come back to it later. Malcolm

Is that for a manual gearbox?

You said the sensor tells if it is "D" does that mean drive as in for an automatic, as mine is a manual gearbox, so will it still be the same, if you can let me know that would be brilliant.
