It was working fine yesterday and then today when I got a call, the handset rang, and the radio volume also lowered, but the i could not hear any sound through the speakers, only through the handset!

Also on the display there is a pic of a microphone with a circle around it and a line through it. It's like the sound has been muted.

I spoke to Mercedes and they didn't know what the problem might be.. I've tried pressing the mute buttons on the steering wheel and main control but this does nothing...

It's driving me mad becuase I am sure that this is a simple fix but I don't know where to look next!

Can anybody please help..

All the best

Sounds silly but try increasing the volume of your system when in call mode.

If that don't work just re-sync the phone to the bluetooth unit again starting afresh.

tried both of those to no avil! it's so frustrating as i must have changed something when i was playing about in the car last night but don't know what.
it's strange the display shows the pic of a mic with a line through it, as if to indicate a mute of some sort..

Hi

On my W204 system I recall there's a setting in the menu to switch on or off the handsfree system. Don't know how you find it though - checked the the manual - it just says "in the menu" select mike on or off. It does say a symbol of mike off will be displayed. Sounds a bit like your problem.

I've never tried to find it. I suppose it's there so you can make or receive calls without passengers hearing your conversation??

Woo hoo, got it working again. Found the info. in the audio manual but that was little use so I decided to try to old trick of taking the battery out of my phone, as an mercedes guy said he thougt it was a phone issue, rather than the car. As it turns out it worked. He also said that he had heard of issues with my phone (nokia n72) and the car system.
At least it's going again now. :)
