I recently purchased a 1970's mercedes which was going well until a couple of days ago. The problem started as I pulled up at some lights when the engine just stalled. Almost every time the car slows down to a halt the battery light comes on and it stalls. It's been running extrememly well for the last 6 weeks so I don't understand what could have gone wrong. Does anyone have any ideas?

Usually its either the Idle Control Valve or the Idle Speed Control Unit. Do some searches on these two things, there might be some info for your car model.

You may need to add oil to the damper on the carb. The in laws MG had a similar problem, but was hard to restart as well. As winter's coming, should use ATF
