My dads just bought a 1989/1990 Mercedes 560 sec carat duchatelet but I cant find any tech spec or details on the car or engine or whats different with a carat duchatelet. Can anyone help ??

What specifically do you need to know?

I thought the 'Carat' bit was styling only. I am not aware that they did anything to the engine or handling. So, its basically a 560sec (hardly basic!) with a very expensive body kit and poss interior upgrade.

I suspect that mechanically it will be standard but it will have a Carat bodykit, steering wheel & wheels

You could, of course, contact Carat Duchatelet in Belgium and ask them. But it may have been converted by a UK agent - someone like Wood & Pickett - so CD may not be able to help

I test drove a 1989 560SEL last autumn and absolutely planted my right foot coming out of a corner onto a long straight.

The engine just chugged along smoothly and I was a bit under-awed from such a big engine. That was, until I looked down at the speedo

The smoothness and refinement of the w126 can be very deceptive!
