Does anyone know what the broken bit is. Its towards the front end of the head on a W124 200TE from 1992. What impact does it have being broken off like this?

On a related issue, any idea whether my 200TE is a carb or injection? I always thought its a mechanical injection (thus the 'E' in TE, as it stand for 'Einspritzung, German for injection) but wanted to ascertain that. If it is mech inj, then what would be the type? Bosch Jetronic, etc?

Thanks in advance for any help.

The pic is a bit vague

if those are electrical connections on top of it, I'd say coolant or cylinder head temperature sensor. However, the rubber bits look like vacuum pipes, so I'd suggest something to do with air by pass or some other vacuum regulated bit.

if you state your VIN you will get a lot more authoritive answers.

Thanks for the replies.

Myros, as you suggest, they are probably vacuum pipes as they have small holes inside. I didn't check the central locking.. maybe it had an effect on that! Hope not as it was working perfectly up to now.

Unfortunately I don't have it to hand as the car is far from me. Do you need it for the injection question?

Those are vacuum pipes, with a sensor. This will have no affect on the central locking

yes fuel injection. The sensor is a vacume to the understide of the inlet manifold, part number A 000 140 07 60 ignition control valve, but check with the parts dept at MB first. Water comes out when removed!!

Thanks. Do you know what they may have an effect on?

Thanks Jib. No water was coming out yesterday, neither when the engine was cold nor when it was warmed up. Is the ignition related to any of the hyraulic systems?

The car was running rough and sounded like a sewing machine until it had warmed up properly. Once it was warm it just ran rough but I had put that down to water in the dizzy cap / leads. (So much for giving the engine a light wash with the utmost care... :( )
