Hi I am new and not mechanically minded but my c200 (1998 ) is running up big repair bills but is still not right.
In the morning the car starts fine but there is no power, I live on a small hill and it struggles to get up it. If you restart then it runs fine but the fan is on a lot.
Any advice would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks for getting back to me. Yes it is the engine fan, it seems to be on first thing in the morning and randomly through the day, it seems to be on as much as off and it is quite loud.

fan on a lot and no power when cold -
dodgy temp sensor ??
if it overreads, it will assume the engine is warmer than it is and hence run lean when cold. Once warm, it will pop the fan on too early ..

Just a thought.

I rarely disagree with Malcolm (as he's normally spot on) but if it runs ok when warm, aside from the fan issue, I'm not so sure about the MAF. I'd expect warm running problems and restricted revs which you don't report.

Thanks for the replies. It may help if I tell you what I have already emptied my purse for. We have had a new air flow meter, which solved the no acceleration when using kick down, a new tempperature sensor/sender and a air con service.
The fan is loud and the sound is driving my husband nuts, I really need to know if I can get the car running properly for a reasonable amount or if I should get rid.
The car looks fab and is an estate, which is just what I need.
Thanks again
Jo
