I can't open or close the doors using the remote control. I was using the spare key (the one which looks like credit card). The problem was intermittent before (doors not locking or unlocking) but it used to be sorted out by trying to start the car few times. Now nothing is happening at all. I tired the key in front of digital camera but doesn't seem to produce any IR signal. I asked Mercedes in Aberdeen and the quoted me £210 for the flip out key and £190 for the spare key.

My question is can I disable the central lock all together, so I can get into the car manually and most importantly can start the car.

Thanks.

Thanks

Thanks Chris, I was using the spare key. I have opened it a little bit, and something fell out of it. It must be the same problem. I don't know how to open the whole key without breaking it?

If you read all the pages of it you will get additional information on how to test the key.

You can see from the pictures that it can be opened, just study it first and work over a towel to catch any tiney components that might drop out

You just need to prise the key all the way around with a screwdriver until it comes apart, make sure you don't lose the spring that operates the key blade!
Once its open you will probably find the little microswitch with its four little legs, just match those up to the four little pads on the circuit board then touch your soldering iron on each with a dab of solder and your done.

Remember to tension the spring when putting it back together otherwise your key blade won't spring out.

Only about a 10 min job

Hope this helps,

Brilliant

Thanks Chris & Dec. That is brilliant. The key worked OK. This saved me £190. What Merc thinking they are doing replacing keys straightaway.

Thanks again.
