Hi All,

The missus has an '02 C200K coupe and for the last 6 months it has had an intermittent power loss problem. It loses power completely for a few seconds before accelerating again, it feels like some sort of fuel starvation/mixture problem. Does not seem to be connected with the weather (ie damp or wet conditions) or speed of travel (happens when pulling away or at motorway cruising) and is very intermittent, can happen once in a week or 10 times a day. The dealer over the last 6 months has checked/replaced the maf, lamber sensor, fuel pump and a few other things with no joy. they have the car at the moment and are changing the throttle body. Hopefully this will sort it as I am worried that she will lose power when pulling out. etc and have an accident. The dealer has experienced this problem while they had the car on a test run but as yet have not sorted it and our warranty runs out shortly. Do you or anyone else have any ideas and is this a problem with this model. Should Mercedes being doing more to sort this out? She has lost all confidence in driving it which is a shame as apart from this it has been an excellent car for her. I have done a search for 'power loss' on this forum and am a bit suprised at the amount of posts regarding this sort of problem. Again, should Mercedes be doing more to rectify this as it sounds like a common problem. If anyone else has experienced this or has an idea what the cause is please let me know.

Thanks for any help.

I have experienced power loss but that was with a failing o2 sensor. I'd put my foot down and there was a 2-3 second delay before much happened. Eventually the delay became permanent and it wouldn't accelerate at all. I also had the Air mass sensor changed at the same time as it was dicky too, but it sounds like you've had them done already. If the sensors have been replaced to no avail and the throttle body too, I think I would be suggesting they stick a new ECU in and try that.

I also wouldn't tolerate the suggestion that the warranty will run out. The fault was reported 'in warranty' and until it's resolved, my view would be that the warranty stands. I would demand a written assurance that any work related to this fault is covered until the problem has gone away for a reasonable period at least.
