Hi,

I own a Sprinter LWB 311 CDi 54 plate which has a mysterious intermittent power problem. Sometimes it is fine and pulls away normally but then the power will drop away and I will have trouble overtaking or the speed will bleed off so I am doing 50ish mph with my foot on the floor and there is nothing else there. The max rev range is noticeably lower too. What is the normal max revs for a Sprinter by the way? It will rev just over 3K RPM when the performance is down but can get it to just over 4K when it seems normal. Wondering if it is a fuel blockage or a wiring problem.

I had two mechanics look at it. The first cleaned a filter in the turbo and it seemed to cure the problem and the second noticed the engine oil was a little low so he topped it up and the Sprinter seemed to go better after that. But both were shortlived. The symptoms returned quickly.

Anyway, if anyone can help with ideas I will really appreciate it. It's driving me nuts!!

Transducer or wiring to it would be first thing to check

Your going into limphome mode.

Is the engine warning light illuminating on the dash, if not i would doubt it is an engine fault, more than likely a brake pedal or clutch swich problem or even a faulty brake light bulb.

depending on the fault codes, id check the wiring which runs to bulkhead in engine bay, common for rubbing through,

Had a Sprinter in the garage recentley with a simliar problem max revs 3000 and sluggy on the accelerator to reach those revs, in this case turned out to be injector.

It's not normally an injector issue. This would misfire or worse still cut the fuel off and bring up the EDC light thus putting up a fault code.

I'd start with the wiring loom along the front of the intercooler/rad Common problem. Turbo boost pressure sensor / waste gate sensor are the next thing to try. Should all bring up fault codes.

You're complaining of lack of power, mines been off the road 3 months for too much power. Can't win with the damn things.
