Just changed the copper washer on the injector of my c220cdi. I cant believe it but i stripped the thread on the holding down stud. I am now knackered obviously cannot run the car. Has anyone any experience in re-tapping the thread or a mobile company that can do it for me.

Thanks

thanks, bit sad for Xmas eve but been looking at helicoil on web. I think that will do the trick. The top part of the thread at the bottom of the hole is the problem- there is still 10mm of stud still to screw in.

Cheers

can't you just get away with running a finishing tap through?

take the injector to a decent tool shop/engineering works and ask them what size thread it is - they'll tell you something like M10 F or VF and if you don't live to far away will probably lend you the tool for the price of a beer - if not they aren't expensive :).

All the usual caveats apply and if there is any real danger of bits of thread falling into the combustion chamber you should get the head removed to do it. However, if it's just a case of reforming the thread you stand a 99.9% chance of getting away with it as long as you work slowly.

i ve had some experiene with hele coils its the tang at the bottom of the coil thats the bit you will have trouble with it has to be broken of so bite the bullet and have the head removed that way the work can be done proprely without any danger to your engine.

If that is the case I would do as Andy K suggests.

If you cover the tap with loads of grease (or proper cutting compound if you have it) it will stop anything from falling inside.

stripped thread. sorted!

managed to sort. What must have happened was a piece of debris had fallen into the hole. Even after cleaning the area and hole with WD40 the thread was still blocked by 10mm. After a great deal of poking around with a cable tie and flushing out managed to clear and hey presto............
