Help two catalytic blown hitting hole

Can anyone help I recently went over a very large hole in the road with a lot of water in it car went bang gave a shudder and the engine management light came on stopped a safe distance from hole couldn’t see anything so took my car to independent Mercedes garage the up shot is both my catalytic converters are blown and it needs a new air mass meter now the insurance inspector says he has never seen this before but the mechanic in the independent with 20 years experience tells me this is quite common has anyone out there had a similar experience
