Your Mercedes
2005 C270CDi Avantgarde Estate. Bought 2005, sold 2022.
I have never used this before m8, and take delivery of the car on Monday, but the version in it was version 3.0 All I asked them was to update the software.and reading threads here there appears to be certain things in the system that requires activation by the dealership....Glad you can afford a spare at £295 Ha! Ha! Ha!
No way I'd buy one at that price!

If you haven't picked up the car yet then perhaps the dealer could update the system using a disk from a car they have in stock or a demonstrator etc - as you've noted several models use the same disk.

Then you can pop yours in and all should be well, as the system will already be at the same level of firmware.

It might be easier to persuade them to do this if you haven't paid in full for the car yet!

Sounds like mountain out of molehill here. The DVD updates just the Nav application not the Comand operating system so if it causes any issues then loading the old disk should sort them out.

I rang my local parts dept who said if it fails to load Merc will swap it.....2 years g'tee on genuine spares....and he had never heard of "corrupt" 5.1 discs (there were some crappo 5.0 discs that were subject to a free upgrade to 5.1 - they didn't crash anything they just gave occasional read errors.

The instructions are also in the case - the single white sheet with about 10 different language versions on it.

Make the selling garage do it if it worries you that much?

124coupe m8

Thanks once again. you have cleared somethings up here....They are tight dealers here m8 so there is no chance of them using another cars disc... but you have eased my worries, if they dont do it then I will follow your instructions and do it myself. Thanks.

I thought the DVD updated software on the Comand unit as well as the NAV side of things, thats why it has to be put on the computer at the dealers to activate parts of it....Am I wrong here m8

Anyway as you say MOUNTAIN out of a MOLEHILL.....You would think spending that kind of money they would try and please !!!!!

There's no computer activation for a new Nav DVD.

Just insert, update, exit, lock door, wait 2 mins.

The STAR updates are for all the systems in the car and are done either at service time or as recalls.

Separate things.

Stealerships are all about money Graham, find a recommended indie on here for your area, there is a huge wealth of knowledge and experience here and it constantly amazes me when you tap into it.

But most of all enjoy that S and stop worrying about software updates, they're like sex only smoother and put a smile on your face everytime you park your arse in one. (I still pine for an SL or CL though).

Onwards and upwards ;-)

If you don't do the update then you will have bought an S-class 4x4......or at least Comand will think you are "off road" anytime you travel on a road built in the last 3-4 years!

LOL that sounds fun m8........No chance in getting caught on speed cameras then!!!!!!

I know what you mean m8......As I said if they have not done it for me, I will follow your instructions and do it myself....... I also hope there is a manual for the COMAND unit. I have searched around to see if I could download one, and that way I would be one step ahead......but so far NO JOY !!!!

Comand manual should be with the car - not sure with your car but on the Es it hides in the rear armrest.

And a printed copy from the dealer is £10-12 - worth it to make the car "complete".
