So.. here's an idea. (Apologies if a thread already exists)

A thread were we post interesting stuff we have seen in our daily lives...

I came across this while out in Richmond, London on my recent vaccine holiday. I thought it was quite cool and really clean. Would these have much value these days, especially nice clean examples.

The US plates look cool. I guess that is skirting a few laws but as long as it's insured and doesn't see the road that often, I doubt any coppers would mind.

I bet there is a nice unfiltered rumble off that engine...

Nice motor, probably only sees the road in this weather.
As for the Celica - loser!

Haha true.

In fairness that guy is a musician/entertainer and he has 40k followers on Instagram, so I guess in some regard fair play to him for putting himself out there and building his brand. I saw it as a bit of fun really.

I think that's a genuine US car with it's correct plate. Maybe the owner is on holiday or something or spends half his time in the UK. No record of that number as a UK one, according to road tax records. Beautiful condition, but the older MBs don't do much for me.

Very nice!
I used to live just around the corner from there in Kings Street, above what was then a BSM Office. Infact one of my first jobs, (amongst others) was in Dickens and Jones right opposite!
I also used to have a Celica like that about 15 years ago! It was a Jap Import Auto. Nice car!

You might well ask, and I think the answer could surprise you. My local Mercedes dealer, Sandown Poole, have a couple of nice old cars for sale currently, a 280SE drophead similar to the one photographed by Conor, and an 280SL about the same age, both "Low mileage, one previous owner" of course. I asked a couple of staff, and no-one could tell me anything about either car other than what's on their website, where there are a number of photos of each of them. No build year is stated, and no-one seemed to know, but both cars look absolutely as perfect as any car can, very much "as new" in every respect both of them, it's just like they'd been delivered from MB a day or two earlier. One employee thought they might have been living in the MB museum. They're both advertised as zero miles, though I noticed that the 280SE had six miles on the odometer.

Before anyone starts reaching for a debit or credit card though, something that might put you off a little. Sandown are asking £604,000 for the 280SE, and a slightly more affordable £258,000 for the 280SL. Assuming that they manage to unload the cars for those amounts, I think that answers your question Conor...

Go on, feast your eyes at: Sandown Poole/used cars
