Welcome Adam. Tell us more about your ML-- age, colour, spec etc. Great vehicles IMO. I had an ML270cdi for a couple of years and really enjoyed it. Really comfortable, very spacious, and 30+ mpg on a run.

Don't let him depress you! Some of us had to wait a very long time for our first defect. Or am I just insensitive?

I suspect some are still waiting? ;):):D

I seriously recommend he prise off the three pointed star and stick on a Toyota badge in its place  .... to ward off the evil spirits. Reliability is like the Grim Reaper on these cars, he's stalking you every second, just hope he doesnt get you :D

Welcome :=) ... Great cars, Ive had lots of issues with mine, but love it to bits.

Love it! LOL :D:D:D

I used to have Toyotas. Camry V6 1993-94 - 60,000 miles, no faults. (the best kept secret on the UK car market. Fabulous car - best selling car in its class for 9 years out of 10 in the USA - and there were only 600 in the UK at the time). Carina 2 Executive 1994-96 58,000 miles, no faults. Like MB they used to have legendary build quality in that era but various sources, including JD Power, suggest that it is no longer 100%?

I joined a new company in 1995 and Toyota were not on their list of choices. Nor did Toyota have an auto diesel. I switched to Volvo 850 CDI (125,000 miles, never in the garage except for servicing) and an S80 (63,000 but one or 2 problems, including a new gearbox).

I have had MB diesel autos since 2003 (W211, 63,000 miles and now a W220, 17,000 miles and counting) and they have behaved impeccably, as have other MBs in the family.

I used to attribute this to the superb driving, but surely that can not be true?

Helen how can you say that to Alex :confused::confused:

Strength rather than power, I guess? I generally put in throw away comments like the one highlighted here just to check if people read the post all the way through. Well, it worked!

Seriously though, thanks for your support Malcolm. I think Helen is only exercising a quid pro quo for the slight I cast upon her engineering posts recently!

And as a Financial Adviser, she knows a thing or two about a quid!:D

Wrong thread Hawk, this one's about a new member :-o

Couldnt stop laughing yesterday, crossing the road from the main station to the Steigenberger Hotel here in downtown Stuttgart, I saw an ADAC low loader and on the back was a new white GLK, broken down and immovable!!! I smiled at the ADAC guy, he recognised me and smiled back...... how true his words, that so many new cars are failing because of electronic faults!!

I just cant stop laughing.... if only he had changed the three pointed star for a Toyota badge

I know nothing makes your day, psmart, more than a chance to run down Mercedes and I shouldn’t spoil that but it may interest you to see what JD Power said about Lexus, if you think Japanese are so perfect:-
"The Lexus IS is second in class and third overall.

Owners reported very good interior build quality, loved the way the car drives and looks, and rated Lexus dealers as among the best.

There are chinks in its armour, though. Mechanical reliability was only average; a number of owners reported engine faults. Running costs were so-so, with relatively steep fuel bills."

I expect you noticed that the E class missed top exec car by a whisker in the J D Power 2008 survey, and finished in the top 10 of all cars for customer satisfaction.

Worth noting too that in the AutoExpress Driver Power 2008 survey it finished top executive car and finished 3rd overall of all the 100 cars in the survey.

Reading this although I do get some problems from time to time, but then I do have the most complicated car in the range I was thinking what a beautiful car it is to own and drive, the sun was shining as I drove from Bere Regis to Swanage and then home via Dorchester, silky smooth, roof down and very warm in the car, the car almost drives itself and a wonderful feeling still after the 26 months that I have had it,,Great cars Mercedes and most of us love them.

I for one could never think of another make of car
