Hi folks! Im the prowd new owner of an old 190E 1.8. He (yep, decided hes a 'he') was a bit scruffy and smelly (smokers, WHY!!!!) but a couple of hours with a rug doctor sorted most of that out. And it turns out that I paid a damn good price for him too! Car auctions are like a box of chocolates........
Anyway, my first question: Structuraly, the drivers seat has seen better days. Obviously I can do a like for like swap, but are there any better seats from other models I could fit instead. E.g. I put Granada seats in my last Sierra, great improvement. Can I do the same trick here?
Secondly, are there any points on these cars that I need to keep an eye on? Weaknesses, parts that realy need religious servicing etc.
Ive found the post Ive read so far to be informative and entertaining, I hope I can contribute!
Steve
P.S. Do any of you name your cars?

Being a 1.8, it'll have a duplex timing chain, so just normal sevicing will suffice, you could try and find a seat from a 190e sport line, or cossie, bit more wrap around.

all my merc coupes & audi coupes were "he's"

how can a car as mean looking as mine be a girl and roars like a 60 a day man (the car not me)

as for seats id get a full set of leather but for a 190 thats a bit hard as they are so old now but im sure you might find a donor car and nick bits whih is wahat i want for my coupe as it needs new front seats as mine are a bit worn (not taty just well used)

I'm a smoker and don't smoke in my car ever, and i do appreciate the non-smell of smoke in the car.

same goes for my house, when i want a puff, i go outside (or in the case of the car, i take a break and have it there)

cheers
