I bought this car a couple of months ago and its a C220d 2008 Sport model with 110k on it.
The car drove perfectly until yesterday. Yesterday when coming from home I was accelerating in 3rd gear and could hear whining noise coming from the tranny most likely. I tried accelerating in all other gears but there was no whine in them. It only whines in 3rd.
A few days ago I did a toruqe converter lockup adaption reset with Snap on tool and after that I could see that although the car was a little more responsive but it would slightly jerk at 1500 to 1600 rpm. The gear changes are perfect, fine and smooth but it jerks at the above rpm in 1st 2nd and 3rd gear.

Could anyone help me with these issues ?

this is my second mercedes with the same engine and gearbox, the older one never had these problems.

Help will be much appreciated .

Thanks,

Do you know when / if the car has had its transmission oil changed? At 110k, it's probably due anyway, so if you're sure the whine is tranny-related, then I would start with an oil and filter change, checking for 'bits' at the bottom of the sump pan and also in the filter element.

Somebody with more knowledge of these things might be able to help further.

Hi Ernie,
I'm not sure if it had the oil and filter changed but I'm gonna buy a filter and oil from mercedes today and get it changed but I was wondering if anyone else experienced similar issues and how they resolved it.

Thanks

Get it done by a specialist, will cost around £250 including a full flush before the new oil is put in

Do you know if/when your car last had a gearbox oil and filter change? At 110k, it's probably due anyway, so I'd have it done and check the sump pan for 'bits' and also open the filter and check that. A whine could be bearing related, but difficult to know without hearing it.

Hello and welcome

I’ve merged your three threads together for you as there’s no need to post the same question across the forum

Used to have a C63...
From memory, ATF change is due every 40k miles / 3 yrs, so it's approaching it's 3rd change, as a minimum, (4th on age).

Low ATF will lead to erratic and / or clunky change behaviour, and very low ATF obviously leads to premature wear & damage.

A 2008 W/S204 will have the 5 speed gearbox that MB claim is "sealed for life", it was the MY2011 that introduced the 7 speed box with 1 mandated ATF change at 37.5k miles. For some unknown reason my owners manual says 1 change at 37.5k miles, but I had a major row with the supplying main dealer (they supplied the car - think they had it as a demonstrator then sold it 6 months old to first owner - took it in PX, I was buying as second owner), service manager of main dealer was adamant that box was sealed for life. Car had 64k miles when I bought it, I asked my indie about a change, he said it was OK to leave it to 100k which is when I had a full box and TC change done. We all know that MB's "sealed for life" claim is BS, it's prudent to periodically have the change done, just some disagreement about how often. My full box and TC change at a local indie cost £400.

Ah yes... good point Chris - forgot mine was 7-sp MCT!

JEEP used same 5-sp box I believe, with same "sealed for life" claims?
