Posted a problem about this some time ago, thought i had solved it by having throttle linkages lubricated. this doesnt happen everytime i start the car, just intermintently, maybe one in five times. no pattern - hot or cold it will do it. the car will start and then rev all the way up to the red line, then back to 1k revs at a normal idle. i am no expert but i understand the throttle on the 107 chasis is all rods, and no wiring, but isnt there a valve that manages the revs when starting? any help would be much appreciated, thanks

I had a similar problem on a 300sl but my 300sl would do this infrequently at any time when ticking over - it turned out to be the idle control valve which my gargae fiddled about with and solved the problem.

i have worried that this could happen at anytime, i.e sitting in traffic in drive and suddenly the revs would floor and i would park in car in front...did you ever come close?
