Ive got a "Hissing" headlamp adjuster. Anyone had one of these? how do you fix it and is it serious??
Read that it might be a leak in a pipe. Can someone explain how this mechanism works? is it vacuum operated? It started after i did a clear light facelift on the front indicators and the rear light clusters but i doubt that would have caused a problem......would it?

If anyone could shed some light on this i would be very grateful.....its driving me nuts. :x

yes it's vacuum operated and my guess is that you've dislodged one of the pipes very worse case is that you've broken the little plastic union that sits behind there.

take it apart again and have a look what damage you've done

Whatever it is is likely to cost pennies to fix :)

Hi, do you mean the actual adjuster wheel next to the light switch? If so, mine does the same!! I got one from a breakers yard while i was getting a few other trim items and that one also hissed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the only option is to get a new one from the dealer.

Its all sorted. Turned out to be one of the vacuum pipes that i accidentally dislodged when fitting the clear front indicators. Thanks for the info Andy.

Stu, have you checked your's??

I just checked mine after reading this(in the dark and rain!! LOL) and yes, mine is disconected!!!!!!! But the rubber conecter is also missing from mine!!!!!!!!!! But would that cause the switch to hiss??????? Also, would this cause both headlamps to not adjust as they never have. I just thought it was the leaky adjuster at fault.

Cheers,
Stu

Stu, as you know the sytem is vacuum operated so i suppose the pressure needed to operate the sytem would have to be constant throughout the entire system? this may be why your lamps have never operated as they should. When i replaced the dislodged pipe, the switch immeadiately stopped hissing but when you operate the switch you can hear a very slight "vacuum" noise. I definitely think that if you replace the connector, it will stop. I was driving around with the switch turned to position 3 where it made the least noise but it was still driving me crazy!
I must admit, to a merc novice, this forum is invaluable for info such as this.

LOL)and the hissing is now gone and the lights now adjust :D :D Not that il ever use the feature but its just nice to know things are working as they should

Stu
