Hi All,

Just wanted to know how hot should the ovp relay get after a shotish journey, say 4-5 miles? my OVP relay gets to the point where i can touch it?
Also noticed that at around 50-60 centigrade the revs and economy gauge fluctuate, anything before or after this its fine?

Help needed!

Thanks

BB

this relay will get warm due to the high current flowing through it.

When the needles start flickering, give the OVP relay a clout with a screw driver handle to see if it makes it worse or better

Smart + others :)
The OVP will not affect the guages. Check the its not over charging, then more then likely a dash/guage fault.

Though the OVP relay is not directly coupled to the gauges, the Austrian ones did go badly dry jointed and any arcing could make the gauges flicker slightly, as could any of the fuses arcing, the sender is also something that fails in this way

Thanks for the replies.

one question is that at round 40c-50c the gauges flicker but it feels as though the car is trying to stall, but cannot do it....at any other temp it perfectly fine? my two guess are either the coolant temp sensor, or ovp, as everything is has been recently replaced....the fuel filter was changed last week, leads/plugs/dizzy cap 1 month ago.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Not easy, you could pull the wires from the sensors and ground them (warm engine very low resistance) this would give the effect of a hot engine

Just a quick note on thhe cause of my hot start problem on my 300CE '88'...
Try to start car after engine is at opertating temp after >10mins splutterd then leveled out....
turns out that the Bosch plugs that i was using were the problem.
Fitted NGK's and now the car runs a lot smoother and my hot starting issue....Gone!
read and intersting point on the US Merc benz forum -
NGK or Beru on plugs @ this point as Bosch no longer makes a copper core non resistor plug for the M103.
If anyone out there has the same issue, could be a good/Cheap place to start.

Thanks for posting back on this, they still say in the trade press the 90% of all faults are still basic
