How many W114 coupes are left?

I was recently at a classic car show, there must have been over 1000 cars there easily. I saw plenty of Triumphs, Jaguars were common as muck, there were a few Mercs but there was only one W114! And that was mine! SO, I'm just asking, is this car getting what you might call "rare"?

Hi Paul,

I agree. Since buying my '73 280e saloon I have not seen a single W114 example on the road. I have also had trouble finding people in my area that knows anything about them, servicing etc.

I was in Norway for my holiday and I saw about 5 or 6 W114s and I think 2 of them were coupes. I reckon that people in Europe seem to want to maintain them, or perhaps there weren't many coupes sold in the UK?

I went to see a coup for sale, thats the only one I have ever seen in the UK.
I have seen aquite a few for sale though, www.mercseller.com and ebay
To sum up, yep I reckon my car is 'rare' and yours even 'rarer'.

Maybe there really are only 2 in the country?

I suspect there are more, but I have no idea on how to put a figure on it. I think I saw a chart once, which put the number at less than 1000, but that was a few years ago.

Your Mercedes
280ce Coupe 1973
How many left.

I have a 1973 280ce (114) which has gone a full restoration, just trimming up left.

Apparently Mercedes made about 115,000 coupes between 1972-1976 which would then be split again into those models with a sunroof and those being either left hookers, carburettor/injection models. How correct this data is I'm not sure. I'm uncertain if this figure also accounts for the 250ce.

Any light shed would be interesting.
