For a start draining the fluid and fit a new filter will cost you £150, I remember Malcolm said.

It may be cheaper if you DIY, 5/6 litres of fluid and a filter and slimmy hands.

The safe mode may not be the auto box problem, it could be the MAF, £145 from Bosch and more from MB dealer.

Safer to get it diagnosed to find the right cause of the safe mode.

A bit lost here as the car gets locked into the safe mode because of a fault with speed sensor signal or conductor plate normally, and if the fault is fixed, then it should be out of the safe mode

you make a "million" posts a day, do you not bother to read the original poster's notes that you are are responding to ?

Perhaps less haste will achieve more speed for you.

It is only annoying because we have to read through your superfluous answer to then realise it was totally irrelevant to the original posters' question.

How do you know the auto box causes safe mode?

My recommendation to have it diagnosed and clear all the fault codes is still valid.

What did you suggest?

Funny, the fault codes can only be cleared with MB STAR.

I had fault codes created several years before I bought the car. I tried Carsoft 7.4 and EOBD II scanner and I thought I cleared it and when I used MB STAR are still there.

It a good way to find the history of the car if you bought it second hand whether it had been abused.

My experience has been Engine limp mode will cure itself once the fault has been fixed, gearbox limp mode has to be cleared on the star machine..
