I am thinking about selling my E36 Cab which I have had from new (registered 1995).

It's in immaculate condition both inside and out with only 67k miles and full MBSH, if I do sell it, and I may not. I'm not sure what to ask for.

Obviously it has the AMG 3.6 power unit but also a full spec inc air con, AMG stlying kit, electric everything, I really went for it on the spec!

i would look in the back say merc enthusianst magazzine and contact some of the specialist sellers, perhaps they may be interested in taking it off you, but obviously they will not give you what it is really worth,

if you ask nicely, they may give you a valuation.

Just keep hold of it.

Wrap it up in (Lightly greased) cotton wool and look at it in 10 years.

You'll thank me then :)

Was this definitely the AMG version -not just AMG kit and so on- as it makes a difference. A dealer in Wiltshire is asking an amazing £9950 for a 1993 320 Cabriolet with 198,000 miles on her! It is on the excellent used-mercedes website: -
http://www.used-mercedescars.co.uk/usedcardetails-t-autoexposure-u-17320-v-AXPO82321.html

They stress the rarity of the AMG versions on the E cabriolet. Only 1900 in all. Good luck.

W124 cabriolets in mint condition and low miles can go for anything up to £20k - there's a slightly overpriced (109k miles) E36 AMG cabriolet for sale as part of a three car collection for £24k here.

The prices for E36's are all over the place,
There is a saloon is up for sale at the moment for £5500.
There were 2 coupes up for sale this summer, one was at a dealer for £10k and was totally mint, the other was a private sale and was £8.5k but I didnt go to see it so i cant comment on condition.
Mercseler had one up for £22k, which needless to say didnt sell, and the seller took it off the market.
I did go to see a E36 Cabriolet which I was very close to buying, fully loaded car even had climate control, 84k and was £13,500. It wasnt my ideal colour and in the end I decided against it.
In addition to all of the above there was a collector with a set of e36's he had one of each (saloon, estate, cabrio, coupe) they have been up for sale on various sites for over 5 months and only the estate has been sold.
As with any used car, you can ask the world for it, as long as someone out there is willing to part with their cash for it.
Its seems as they age they are changing hands a lot more frequantly.

As rare as it is - no W124 is worth that. You could have a lower mileage mint SL60 AMG for less than that.

IMO a realistic selling price would be around £21.5k.

Cabriolets are far more sought after than coupes and saloons. I know a few people that would happily pay £16 - £17k for the right car - and that's a standard 320 with ~60k miles.

It is a car that you and your partner can happily take to Ascot (and with your friends in the back seats) and look a million dollars. The romance of it.

How can you do that in 129 SL, an ageing dinosaur of a car.

Traditionally, classic mercs are about full four seater convertibles.

Add in the extra performance, exceptional condition and one owner of this car, with all the toys and limited production numbers, it's just a matter of a bit of good marketing to reach the 'right' audience.

My humble opinion.

If you think R129s are aging dinosaurs you've lost any respect I had for you David.

As Jeremy Clarkson commented, the only person who looked cool in the Back of a Cabrolet was Hitler, most just look embarrassed !

The R129 is a timeless classic, its not as practical but then how many sports cars at the £100k mark can be called practical. The top of the range CE was under £60k, where as the top end of the SL was more than double that. As for 'ageing dinosaur', the early ones as looking dated, but the last of them still look impressive, especially the Silver Arrows that Stats has. Im not knocking the w124, I own one and I love it, Ive had an SL and they are Very different.

One of my Lithuanian boy-racer carpenter has a 2 litre version. It was originally from Italy & is now with Lithuanian plates. It is a yukky green colour and had plastic wheel trims (now has 19 inch amg's).He has 'customised' it in true Litho style. This means 100% tinted glass,boot-full of bass boxes,LPG conversion done in Lithuania, servicing done on the cheap and a pair of miniture boxing gloves hanging off the rear-view mirror,oh and it's a manual!!.

Lovely looking car and rare, but who would chose green as the colour, given their choice ? That plus an asking price of 20k+ will surely limit its appeal,
low production number or not.

Definitely a small market, but I am sure there are people who will pay a considerable amount because another good one is very difficult to find.
The basic 1994 price was £54,450 but electric seats, air con , ASR were all extras.Body kits were £3815.30 on their own.

My step mother has just spent £20k plus on a 3 yr old Audi Cabriolet and I know she wouldn't have looked at a W124 . I know the one I would choose though with that sort of cash. Only a guess, but I reckon that if you can find the right buyer the E36 cab is worth £6k over the best cabriolet with same miles and colour.
