Sell the diesel and buy an EV.
Cheaper in the long run.

I think VV mentioned on one episode that the minimum conversion cost was £20k, but they and other installers don't seem to be short of customers. I didn't realise that there had to be some sort of DVLA approval.

Not seen a thread on this nor do I see the logic (no offence).
Best bet would be a google search if you want to keep the MB.
Alternatively sell your car as is (it would be a hard sell after the conversion) and get an electric MB.
That said MB electric cars are pants.

Sell the diesel and buy an EV.
Cheaper in the long run.
Thanks for suggestions
Only peanuts offered for Diesel today. An EV (used or new) too expensive for my budget.
My usage now is for low mileage annually, hence consideration to go electric if possible and to be DVLA Approved

What precisely is the car which you wish to convert?

Have you any idea of the cost of conversion?

NJSS
Thanks
1. A MBz C220 CDi Classic 4 Door Saloon/2001 Reg/2148 cc/6 speed manual gear box/ only 52,000 miles in good mechanical condition.
2. I live in inner London and cannot afford daily ULEZ fines.
3. All other alternatives I cannot afford, hence consideration of going for Conversion to electric if such conversion Outfit exist and to DVLA Approval.
4. I do not know the cost of conversion and one of the reason for this Enquiry

5. Due to the high cost of diesel and petrol fuels which is unlikely ever to reduce radically, there will now be demand for such conversion as only scrap value is now given for good used old Diesel cars

So what's your C220 worth realistically?

EV conversion companies prices for conversions can start at around £15,000, rising to anything upwards of £30,000. Have a look the RAC pages on EV conversion.

I would have thought that you might be best served selling the C220 & buying a ULEZ compliant vehicle. I fear if you invested say the minimum of £15k in converting the C220 it would probably be worth less than the cost of conversion.

1.Most of what is on internet and videos are old material and when the demand for conversion of diesel and petrol saloon cars to EV were negligible
2. Now due to diesel fuel at £2 /litre and petrol just below that and no indication that it ever be reduced radically, the demand for conversion to EV will become greater as only scrap figures are given for older diesel cars.
3. I live in inner London and cannot afford daily ULEZ fines.

Selling it as scrap will be painful as it was my sole retirement investment (with the great advise from a previous Mayor of London).

Here's your kiddy for London:

I remember reading an article about them a few years back, sounds very interesting and something I'd consider when the cost comes down a bit. I personally think that's the way forward for most of us.

Sadly their conversions average at £30K when you read their FAQ section. I have read about other companies that will do a basic conversion for around £20,000.

I'm hoping more and more companies will get into this over the next 5 years, and if the price of batteries comes down it might then start to become affordable. If it was less than £10K (and if our electric bills came back down...) then it would make sense for quite a few people.

The cost of conversion will outweigh the cost of buying an old (but very usable) Prius or Zoe etc.

You'll get a few quid for yours with that mileage and age (2011 or 2001 year?) from someone outside of London so put it in eBay or trade it in with a dealer outside of London.

Vintage Voltage did admit it's a luxury spend converting for donor car parts let alone the labour

I did the maths on a Nissan leaf a month or so ago, and my thoughts at the time were that because electrical energy is near double the cost at present, it was around the same cost to run a Diesel car as an electric car.

Of course that will change when (if) our electric bills come back down, I think it's likely they will eventually. But in contrast I think there is a good change fuel costs won't ever come down to where they were.
