I have just got in after visitng a customer of mine. I came home via the local bypass and initially stopped at the lights to embark onto said bypass. Young boy racer in possibly Mum's Astra Turbo coupe pulls up behind, although there is a spare lane next to me. I'm thinking I'll see this whipper snapper off, but no! He kept up me well into 3 figures, is this right?

Do i need to purchase an SL65 TT?

I think you need to have your car looked at, or reconsider your driving ability :)

Unless the Astra was a sleeper car, theres no way it should have matched your acceleration.

let me guess

you were in reverse, were'nt you. or he'd attached a tow rope. If not, I think a trip to the trick cyclist might be in order, as this sounds like a nightmare

Intresting, just recently , I also came upon a Vauxhall, not sure what model it was, But I had to use a lot of throttle to stay with it under acceleration, prehaps the competion,s getting faster, or more people are having their cars doctored!, prehaps I will wait for the E70, then the E73, then the E85, etc etc, where will it end, wonder how much petrol will cost by then?

It was probably tuned up.

Expect at least 300bhp+ from one properly tuned.

The weigh next to nothing compared to the SL.

the ACT has alot of potential, ive been in a few of the astra owners club members cars and the speed and accelleration of the z20let with just a few modifications is immense.

theres some of them that easily get 300bhp on the rollers...

i'd be tempted myself... if it wasnt a vauxhall... im trying to get away from them... lol... as my other posts have mentioned.

whats really scary is the 12second 1/4 mile NOVA's :|

saw a few of them one broke 11 seconds at santa pods Performance Vauxhall show this year...

being beaten by a nova would really shake the confidence eh?

Pulled up at the traffic lights today in the Corsa and a guy screeched to a halt next to me on his bike. Couldnt see his face for the helmet, of course he started edging forward bit by bit, trying to get that extra jump.
Right I thought, foot ready on the accelerator. When the lights hit green I slammed the foot down.
We both got a good start but he seemed to be edging it by the time we were across the lights.
Nice straight dual carriageway no other traffic so I kept the pedal to the metal. Gripping the steering wheel tightly shaking it, trying to get that little bit extra out of the 1.4 engine. :p
But he still seemed to have the edge.
About 300 yards further on he suddenly slowed down and stopped.
There is a roundabout not far ahead so I swung round and turned back to see what happened to him.

It seems his school bag got tangled in his pedals. :)

Fast Vauxhalls

Hi, The Vauxhall Monaro is an outrageously fast car for the money and the Linden Special Vehicles version something else again, the twin turbo version over 800 bhp, would not want to come up against one of these.

As has been said, the performance out of the c20let engine can be sensational to say the least.

My previous car was a Calibra turbo, stock figures were (depending on the magazine you read) 205 Bhp top speed of 155 0-60 around 6 seconds, however the boost valve could be replaced and turbo boost changed from a stock 6psi to 18 psi without affecting reliability! and I promise you, the acceleration with this was nothing short of fabulous.

Get a reliable tuner to tune the engine and 300bhp was easy, In fact before I bought my Calibra I was a passenger in one Calibra turbo that was owned by a racing team, that had 550 bhp (according to them), 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th gear were 4wd and 5th, 6th were 2wd that car was unbelievable performance wise, with 300bhp the Calibra was still well behaved on ordinary roads, I felt any more than that made it undriveable in town as it just didn't like sticking to 30mph limits. (My car was permanent 4wd but could be modified to switch to 2wd on demand easily)

In the 11 years I had my car I never found its top speed, I ran out of nerve on the autobahns when I tried pushing it on one occasion, but on a rolling road it went well over the 155 declared top speed.

I kept my calibra turbo until last november and still regret letting it go, I have a CLK 230K now, but the 11 years plus I had the Calibra were much more enjoyable, unfortunately by the time I sold it the car was no longer reliable, and I was unable to do the work needed to make it reliable again, I know I could have paid a mechanic to do so, but the fact I had no air conditioning and no cruise control as well as a few other minor irritants persuaded me to change cars, and yes, I do regret it, the Calibra was much more a drivers car than my CLK is, hopefully, after Ian walker gets a chance to sort out my car I will be a little happier with it and wont miss the Calibra quite so much.

Maybe it's about getting that bit older and appreciating that raw speed and power isn't as important as speed, comfort, and prestige ? and the fact that the amount of speed cameras traffic cops - and traffic make it harder to use the full potential of a fast car - without losing your licence - oh for the good old days when you didn't have all that ;) - ehhrr, wait a minute, the cars were that slow and limited you wouldn't get a flash from a camera - nahh, prefer nowadays :p:p:p

No but you do need to learn to observe the speed limits and not give bad examples to 'young whipper snappers'.
