Just had a chat with this gentleman after seeing recommendations for his garage on this forum. I wanted some ideas of servicing prices for a CLK we are thinking of looking at. What a lovely guy! Went through his (very cheap, I thought) prices, gave me lots of advice about the car and running costs, what to look for etc. Very polite - no pressure or bs. The repairs and servicing costs are what concern me most I guess, but I feel a bit more confident knowing there is a good independant within striking distance.

I have no connection with 124 works, just impressed by his honest advice and attitude.

Ian has an excellent reputation on the other forum. I've not heard a bad word said about him or his work.

Okay Try this one Ian

Dear Mr Walker,

I turns out that the idler bushing on the poly V belt tensioner has gone and what what originally a squeaking noise is now a rattling like a nut or stone in a can. Should I risk driving it to my indie for repairs?

Kind Regards :D

It would depend on how far you have to travel. If only 5 miles or so then I would risk it. Any more and I would remove the belt, struggle with the steering and trust the battery stays charged enough to get you there.

I doubt the heater would be enough without the water pump turning. Sorry to say I wouldn't drive it with the belt off at all...

So ian do you cater for those of us who do not have 124's then and are you a specialist in the odd cam chain change?

If it has a Three Pointed Star that you are fine :-D A Cam chain change presents few problems. What car do you have?

the same as in the other forum under the same name. Forgot that i was registered on this forum hence the relative few posts. :):) and having got down to filling all my details yet.
