Posted up the other day with my 1988 300 SE (KE-Jetronic). Basically as the soon as the car has been running for about two minutes the idle starts to fluctuate between 500 rpm, and about 1700 rpm, more often that not closer to the 1700 rpm area.

Anyway I replaced the OVP relay the other day, unfortunately with no effect, but this afternoon I unplugged the idle control valve, and all the time it is unplugged it idles perfectly at about 650 - 700 rpm. As soon as you plug it back in it fluctuates again.

It remains to be seen what happens with a cold start idle as the car is still warm at the moment, but does this point to the ICV being at fault, or another fault that is telling the ICV to do the wrong thing?

Thanks for any responses.

Hi
Is it possible to put up a picture of the idle control valve and the plug that you unplugged.

Thanks

Hi
That was quick.
Looks like you can take the bolts out, disconnect the two hoses and clean the inside with carburettor cleaner.
Spray some switch cleaner into the plug and the two pins/terminals while you are at it.

It should buzz when the plug is reconnected and the ignition is on

I did clean it through with carb cleaner when it first caused me a problem, but it gave no improvement.

I'll see if it buzzes though.

You can put 12 volt briefly through it and it should buzz
