Sat having a hotdog with Theo yesterday in Costco car park watching customers drive in and out… (a great game to pass the time) :p

Only 1 car (apart from me natch…) successfully navigated the roundabout.

I think the drivers were all “target fixated” on either the exit or where they wanted to park instead of looking or perish the thought “thinking” about where they were driving.

It didn’t even matter to them that there were cars coming the other way, they’d still either go on the wrong side or straight over the top.

That could be the roundabout at the entrance to work .... In 15 years I've yet to drive around it the 'correct' way. Most painted roundabouts are only there to to give an indication if right of way but allow bigger delivery vehicles to option to drive over them.
In all probability I've have driven over it or by-passed it too ...

We see this all the time in Cambridgeshire at the retail parks, mostly driven by weekenders as these types don't or can't comprehend driving

........... so many really have no clue about the size of their vehicle
Try passing them on a narrow road (in the opposite direction) - and watch their eyes get bigger and bigger - Mostly people in big SUVs....no idea about how wide the car is and they are expecting me to move into the dirt & potholes at the side of the road to make space for them.

Except on private property.......?
It would be an interesting view if there was an accident… public access and you’d need a very good reason why you decided not to follow the Highway Code…;)

I‘d see it similar to ACOP’s (Approved Codes Of Practice) in H&S - you don’t have to follow them… however the person with the funny wig will need an exceptional reason why you didn’t…. If you don’t have something at least as good as an ACOP in place expect it to hurt - you’ll no be getting a kiss first…

A quick flick of the steering wheel in their direction and they see the error of their ways and shove over a bit.

but the highway code also says we shouldn't exceed the speed limit ..... but people do, and at O'crack Sparrow Fart on my way to work I 'often' do so, as do others.
There's a mini roundabout near me that they moved over slightly because people drove over it. As it's now even more awkward to drive round it, people just drive to the side of it .... I've followed Plod doing the same thing. If the road layout is crap, people will always take the easiest route ..... as is often seen where the road markings have been worn out.

The Focus makes my point ...

I am guilty of this all the time, so I can't claim innocence on this thread... I'll sit quietly and await my forum sentence.

...but I don't really see a problem here, just an observation about life.

Few people obey rules that are given to them, but they do take note of them and are guided by them. For example the reason most people travel around 75-80mph on the motorways is because the limit is 70mph. If the limit was 60mph, they would do 65mph, and if the limit was 80mph they would do 85-90mph. It's human nature to push boundaries; in fact I think it's part of nature.

Therefore only a fool sets strict limits and rules, and becomes annoyed when they are broken continuously by everyone; a wise person produces limits/rules that guide the majority of people to where they want them to be, secretly only worrying about the worst offenders.

I like to think this is true of scenarios like this. We all break these little rules at our own risk, and the law will punish us if it needs to. But day to day the behavior it is tolerated, and we all feel like we know better than our government and leaders.

It was quite a shock to me when I became a manager and experienced people ignoring my instructions, and arguing with me. It took me a while to realise that this happens to all managers, even the most feared ones; and that people instinctively challenge leadership, or ignore instructions that they think make their lives harder if they think they will get away with it.

I should know this. What is the procedure if one is involved in an accident on private property?
Swap insurance details,
Report it to the police .....
......???

A couple of hundred yards from my house, there's a staggered crossroad with two mini roundabouts. My dog pulls me past there a couple of times each day, and I see cars driving over the painted circles all the time, sometimes completely the wrong side of them, but hand on heart, I never have done, but the thing that amazes me is that many drivers turning right into another fairly major road put their foot down hard to accelerate, usually when they can see stationary cars not far ahead ahead, forcing them to brake quite hard, the stationary vehicles were perfectly visible when they left the second mini roundabout. Anyone driving like that is going to worsen their mpg figures by 5 to ten percent, and these fools are probably the ones complaining loudest about the cost of fuel.

The reality is most car parks operate well on cad drawings only.

The pantomime of following these arbitary markings that don't work for so many vehicles on the road is the problem.

You park your car and try to morph into a snake to exit your car, if you have small children with you a nightmare.

The layout is for Noddy.

I think the same goes for a lot of the UK's roads. Navigating a large German car over a lot of the bends and roundabouts has you sloshing from one end of the car to the other like a fizzy drink.

Lindsey once told me I drove like a lorry driver. I asked what she meant, and she explained I cut all the corners and roundabouts; as she had noticed lorry drivers do. I genuinely do this, as I see no point in steering around something that is not there!

That’s just advanced driving - as long as you’re not crossing solid white lines then it’s the right thing to do. You’ve paid for all the road (back in days of road tax…;)) so you might as well use it…
