Thanks to some inconsiderate person I now have a nice 'ding' in my door! I dont do car parks and even if I have to it's the long walk route to were I'm going, so why do they park so close and swing the doors to ding my car? This is the second in 6mths and it well pee's me off! Please please will some one at Tesco read this and realise that smaller car parking spaces do not mean more shoppers buying. I'm fortunate I can get them knocked out for a drink but thats not the point, from now on I will buy all at Costco who adopt the American car park style, BIG spaces, enogh for you to open the door and get in and out.
Sorry about the rant.

Its a common problem. I park at the far end of car parks with no-one anywhere near and when I come back to the car there is always some pratt parked up next to me - and you can always bet it will be some dog of a car too. Why do they do it ?

And me

I have just got to join in ..... Same problem and funny enough Tescos seems to be the main offender, my wifes car now requires in excess of £1,000 worth of dent and scratch repairs all from parking none from any form of accident (over a period of 2 years).

No solution that I can think of other than all having the same respect that I have have for other cars i.e. if you have to park close be careful when opening your door and ensure that you don't damage the vehicle next to you .... Basic respect of other peoples property.

I try not to take my MB to Tesco for the reasons above.
I was driving into town before Christmas and whilst waiting at a temporary traffic light the driver of a 56 Reg CLK 270 which was parked on the pavement next to me came out to his car, he opened the door straight into the side of mine  I expect it from most drivers but not the driver of a new CLK.

I always try parking next to 'modders' as they are very careful with their cars.

I've often considered buying that most un-pc of cars an old Land Rover, just for shopping. I saw one old dear once actually leaning on her door putting stuff in the front of he car whilst the tip of her door was pressed against the car next to her. You could actually see the panel bending on the car next to her.

As for the comment about not expecting someone with a new Merc to be so inconsiderate, I tend to find that those with lots of money (i.e. those that can afford to buy a new Merc) tend to be just as inconsiderate as those with old bangers. Because they have little concept of money they don't understand why it matters.

One thing I NEVER do is park next to a people carrier. I hate it when I come back to find one parked next to me, usually about an inch from the drivers door so I have to clamber in through the passangers side.

I tend to take the Discovery Van if I need to go to Tesco :p My old SIII LR was a perfect supermarket vehicle, no one would dare go near it. As per above my MB attracts cars and trolleys like a magnet.

I'm going to show my wife this, she thinks I'm paranoid about parking. I even drop her off so she does not have to walk from the top waste land of the car park. The annoying thing is my mate who has just done it says this was not just an accidental door opening, he says it's so deep that it was shear jealousy. But thats what you have to put up with owning a nice car, I was once in a red 911 sitting at a zebra crossing and letting three shell suit clad teenagers across, one of them spat on my windscreen! Normally I would of jumped out and kicked the pap out of them, I smiled and pessed the windscreen washers, my wife said that was so un you, but boy did it pee them off.
All back to normal now polished and back in the garage. Back to my daily hack which they can dent as much as they like.

I would never park in tesco,I always stop in the pick up area if I have to shop while in the SL. I know the trolley man so that helps.

We all know of the times that you find a nice gap between to expensive cars and when you come back out, they have gone, and you have a builders truck one side and a beaten up wreck on the other.

Do your shopping in the evening, Ok there is nothing left to buy but at least no damage.

As some one who has disabled parents and a badge I never use these, but I can see why they do it and I would not think it's because it's much closer, just he dont want ding's in exchange for a pint of milk.

and parent/child bays. 90% of those that use them without the benefit of actually having kids, tend to drive BMW's, Mercs and Porche's

I have started to use parent and child spaces at our local Morrisons...they are not any closer to the shop but have bigger bays to allow prams in and out of cars ....so no-one bashes my doors.
Failing that ma missus cracks up when i park half a mile away at the far end of the carpark!!!
Still some eejit will park right beside you with 4 weans who throw open the door with gay abandon right into the side of your lovely motor!!!

People without badges parking in disabled bays - now that REALLY pishes me off!

I am not disabled, nor do I know anyone who is, but I find it absolutely apalling when I see people doing this. I always say something, but very politely "Excuse me mate, but you've forgotten to put your badge up" "oh erm, I've not got one" "Really? <disdainful tutting>"

Someone trashed my wing and indicator in the supermarket carpark 2 weeks ago, the wing was crumpled and scratched and the indicator broken. looks like it was a 4X4 too because of the height of the damage. i.e no bumper damage. If they can't park their 4X4s in a space properly then why do they take it to the supermarket. Luckily I found a wing in the identical colour in a scrapyard, and the indicator has just arrived today, so it didn't cost more than £100 to repair, as i changed the parts myself.

I now find myself examining maroon (the colour of paint they exchanged with me) 4X4s now looking for corresponding damage. Don't know what i'd do if i did spot one though!

That reminds me watching a yummy mummy reversing a new X5 out of a parking space in Mold. Thankfully she was on the end of the row as she reversed out with right hand down, her near side front alloy went over the kerb she then drove forward taking both offside wheels over the kerb. If there had been anything on her left she would have taken chunks out of it.
Still she was easy on the eye.;)

Another thing I have started to do if, God forbid I need to park next to another vehicle I mentally note the Reg colour and make of car in case I come back and there is any damage to my vehicle.
Very anal but people just dont care or respect other peoples property anymore!

if you go to a big supermarket at night it's always a bit of a toss-up.....do you park near the shop and have someone ding your car, or do you park at the end of the car park and have someone break into it?

Having a crap car doesn't help with the later, just makes it easier for people to break into, or steal if they've missed the bus.

I agree with Parrot - I park centered on the white line at Tescos and take 2 spaces - they don't care about me (wife's car done twice there in 14 months) and so vice-versa!
